What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI. It uses machine learning to generate human-like text based on the input it's given. ChatGPT has been trained on a diverse range of internet text, but it doesn't know specifics about which documents were in its training set or any personal data unless explicitly provided during the conversation.

How does ChatGPT work?

ChatGPT uses a transformer neural network architecture, specifically a variant called GPT (Generative Pretrained Transformer). It generates a response by predicting the next word in a sentence, given all the previous words. It does this many times to generate a full response.

ChatGPT has been trained using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), a process that involves fine-tuning the model based on feedback from human AI trainers.

What are the limitations of ChatGPT?

ChatGPT has several limitations. It can sometimes write plausible-sounding but incorrect or nonsensical answers. It's sensitive to input phrasing and can give different responses to slight rephrases. It can also be excessively verbose and overuse certain phrases. Despite these limitations, it's a powerful tool for generating human-like text.
