John Hanke

John is the CEO of Niantic Spatial Inc., where he leads the company in developing geospatial AI that bridges the digital and physical worlds. Prior to Niantic Spatial Inc., John served as CEO of Niantic Inc., where he led the company in building a global-scale augmented reality platform that powered games including Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and Ingress. Niantic Inc. was acquired by Scopely in 2025.
In 2011, John founded Niantic Labs at Google, after serving as Vice President of Google's Geo division, overseeing projects including Maps and Street View. Earlier in his career, John was a founder of Keyhole, a company dedicated to recreating a digital version of Earth, which was acquired by Google for the technology that led to the creation of Google Earth.
John holds a BA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.
