Previously, Ghaffary was a senior tech correspondent at Vox Media and Recode. Prior to that, she's worked at TechCrunch, the San Francisco Chronicle, and BuzzFeed News. She hosted Vox Media's award-winning Land of the Giants podcast, and appeared as a regular guest on major news networks such as NPR, CNN, and CBS.

Ghaffary was raised in Silicon Valley, went to UC Berkeley, and spent several years in her early twenties working at an enterprise software startup.
